Bonni The Hippo is a personal children’s picture book project.
The story follows a child and her unusual best friend, Bonni, a gentle, brown hippopotamus who mysteriously appears in the sky. Together, they share playful adventures, race through the streets, splash in the pool, and enjoy plenty of watermelon.
As Bonni grows into a rather large problem for the family home, the child begins to understand that loving someone also means giving them the space they need to be happy.
Through this project, I explored a whimsical and dreamlike approach to storytelling, focusing on expressive environments, warm character moments, and the playful contrast between a small child and her enormous companion.
